"Oh I'm sure there's something we could use an extra blade for. We could always use more men on the front lines. I believe Mercs are paid by the kill. Orcs, dwarves, elves, heck even faeries. If they're hostile to the king, then they're game for your sword. As for sleeping and eating, you'll have to find a nice patch of grass by a fire. If you're an employed merc, then rations will be provided for you."

"Eager are we? Front lines are out of the camp that way." He points North East. "There's a regiment heading out tomorrow to reinforce the orcish lines. You can go with them if you like. Our tacticians have their eyes on the mercs too, so don't think about lying about your kill count. Move along now."

Dolen heads north east to meet the regiment. As he arrives he finds the captain with ease. Due to him already being a former solider. "Hello, you must be the captain. Im Dolen a merc for hire I was sent here to bolster your regiment."

The captain shakes your hand. "Dolen, huh? Well, it looks like it's your lucky day because we're hiring. This company leaves tomorrow morning, so if you wanna hunker down for the night you can tag along with us to the front lines."

Dolen heads towards a close camp fire and tries to sleep through the night.

A trumpet blows and soldiers begin eating breakfast. One soldier trips over you rushing to the dining tent. As a soldier yourself, you can tell he's a greenhorn and scared to be going to war. He apologizes frantically and goes to the dining tent.

Dolen gets up and walks towards the dining tent, Dolen sat down and quickly ate after eating, he left for the regiment he was assigned to.

The company starts to move out as you're approaching your assigned infantry regiment. The commander shouts at the company, "We are reinforcements to an attack. They are applying constant pressure to the city trying to rout out the orcs. The Elves and Dwarves have been beaten back from this section of the city as well. The orcs are holed up in the keep. Getting them out of there is our mission. They're weak, and we are going to crush them." In half an hour you can hear the sounds of fighting, within an hour your company approaches the city ramparts. There are catapaults firing every few minutes. The commander, who is still on horseback, draws a sabre and commands a charge. "They've already started the attack on the fortress. This is it. If we can penetrate those walls, the battle of Winterfall is ours. Regroup after the battle, just make sure that keep falls!" Archers draw their bows and release as the men begin running forward. There is a small, 3 story siege tower moving toward the wall, a group of men with a battering ram on the gate, and a few siege ladders already in place over the wall.

(How much health do you currently have right now? You didn't heal much after the elemental, did you?)

As you charge toward the wall, one of the siege ladders is kicked over by a large orc and comes crashing down into the men on your right. You wait in the sea of men for an opportunity to start climbing one of the ladders and get your share of blood. As you wait, men are killed all around you by arrows and thrown axes. A heavily armored man grabs you by the shoulder and raises a shield to block an axe that was headed for you. He looks at you and shouts something.

Dolen yells as the fighting continues "It would help a hell of allot!"

He smiles and squeezes your shoulder again healing you for 19 damage.

Cure moderate wounds: 2d8+10

He leans in and yells, "Pelor save the king." He runs over to the men that the ladder fell on and begins attending to them.

You wait a few more seconds before you see an opening to run to a ladder. There is a big orc with an axe at the top that is cutting down the men that have climbed already.

The orc sends its axe through the neck of the guy in front of you. You climb into his threatened area, attack of opportunity: +3

The orc yells as it swings its axe at you.
